they haven't been willing to admit to themselves what they had to do to attract the talent on one hand, and on the other they hired a couple dud coaches.
Bama has had a couple dud coaches, too. Stallings did both 'Bama and TAMU a decent turn when he was at each, considering what he walked into with Texas A&M, for example. Alabama had other coaches than Bear and Saban (and Stallings) and has the resources and "system" (institutional, community, and financial support) to be nationally competitive every year ... but under those coaches, they simply weren't.
Is this really confusing?
Texas A&M should have fought the allegations against Sherrill rather than firing him. Nothing Sherrill did was any different than what Texas did at the time. You're kidding yourself if you think differently.
