Pinkel was an excellent coach and at least as good at evaluating and developing talent.
That is exactly what you need if you are rebuilding. Someone who can win games with players others overlooked. At least to get the ball rolling. He had a nose for the diamond in the rough.
From the outside, that is what appears to be missing now.
Raw talent and coachability should be your recruiting mantra moving forward.
Once you get a little down, the other SEC schools are going to negative-recruit you to death. It will be hard to beat them out for talent until the wins start coming. Especially if they are beating you in the facilities arms race. That, you cant help. Only the powers that be at Mizzou can change.
That's what we went after in Muschamp. he wasn't known for winning, but he was an excellent evaluator and recruiter, so worst case scenario...we let him stock the cupboard, then hire a new up and comer if he doesn't win. So far, so good.
