the cord cutters that they are losing in droves are the ones most likely to be open to their political leanings.

The ones who are sticking with a cable plan are more likely to be older and more conservative.

So as their actual as their customer base trends more conservative they continue to move further and further left. I watch sports to get away from politics and the news of the day. Sportscenter used to be a nightly appointment for me, I do not remember the last time I watched ESPN other than a live sporting event.
