...it's a separate discussion.
Many people - especially a lot of Millenials - seem to think they have a right to never be upset or offended by a contrary or controversial opinion. They also believe that the laws and institutions of government should be used to ensure that. I completely disagree.
However I also believe the 'protesters' in C'ville were not there to peacefully present a message. When I saw the video of the ones clad in paramilitary gear - AR15s in tow - I honestly thought those were national guard troops brought in to keep the peace.
They did have a permit, but they also went outside the boundaries it authorized them to be in, marching straight into the heart of the UVA campus. The video shows they weren't intent on peacefully making a statement. They wanted to be as menacing as they could be in an attempt to intimidate. Oh and they were also wearing neo-Nazi symbols and issuing Klan salutes, culminating in one of them using an ISIS tactic that resulted in the death of a female counter-protester. The 1st Amendment is not intended to protect this type of behavior.
For you to dismiss the reality of these lunatics on the basis of a different issue over snowflakes encroaching on the 1st Amendment has no basis in rationality. They're both legitimate, but very separate issues.
