distinguish between liberalism then and liberalism now, in terms of how it can and does impact policy. I see a big difference. Then, liberalism had a viable, often needed, purpose, which led to improvements in societies. Today, hardly at all. Needed liberal goals have nearly all been met, and then overdone to a point of dysfunctionality.
And an excellent example of the differences is this article quote: "When faced with absolutism, liberalism will always advocate the rule of law.."
Maybe then. But not now. Though of course liberals would lie about it. Today...its what liberals do.
