but maybe he's seen the light since.

Iran was either getting nukes within a few years without a deal or in a decade. They are back on the world stage, selling oil and growing their economy. The younger Iranians are not fundamentalist nutties like the current government. Iran is also unlike most economies in the Middle East in that they produce more than just oil. So when that economy takes off, standards of living grow with the economy, those fundamentalists will eventually be either pushed out or their power will be weakened considerably. That's the hope. The other option was keeping the status quo and a surefire nuclear threat in the Middle East right away and strengthening the fundamentalist government.

Not much of a choice but Obama made the right one.
