but the banks have backed the network not the currency. The network is awesome but it can be used without the currency. That fact combined with the fact that the ripple group owns such a huge chunk of the currency as opposed to a true crypto currency model where the coins have to be mined makes me shy away from it. There have been stories that people have looked at the blockchain for ripple and basically traced large swings in the currency back to the group doing manipulative things with their huge position.

Again I am by no means an expert on it but I lean more towards passing on it at any significant levels of investment.
