If you are including me in being critical, I'm not trying to be. I just think he's a very average level point guard who hasn't shown me anything to believe he's capable of being truly special. Having said that, you may be right in that if the others live up to billing and Phillips doesn't feel he needs to do more than he's capable, then his current skill set may be more than enough for this team to be really good.
