I am mixed on this

There are hundreds of ways to get funding for great ideas now. There are billions sitting in various funds out there for people to go out and get this money. why do we NEED this? Having talked to many that apply for various federal grants, there are so many issues out there..first of all, the success rate is relatively low (like less than 10% of proposals actually get funded). The way the priorities are set up is fairly weird and biased, and then the review process and granting process is also likely biased and political.

Do we need basic research..yes we do, but if you reduce gov;t and let that research capital come from private sourcing maybe it will be more effective in the long run.
