Baseball currently sits at 27-14 with 15 games remaining. With an RPI of 60, they have a lot of work left to do.
There are 3 remaining non-con games left (@MSU (16), vs. Murray St. (204) and vs. E. Kentucky (216)). MSU is the highest RPI team left on the schedule so short of winning the series vs. South Carolina or Vandy, tonight's game is almost a must-win.
Other games remaining are:
vs. aTm (42)
@ Vandy (21)
vs. USCe (23)
@ Tennessee (46)
Normally, 33ish wins would be enough for an SEC team to get a bid, but our non-con was so weak that it will require a few more wins. Ultimately, with their low RPI, the team's magic number for getting an at large bid is 36, IMO, unless they were to beat MSU and win two SEC series, then that number drops to 35.
This would require going 9-6 in the last 14 games. This is will not be easy, but it is doable. The most straightforward path would be to win the remaining 3 non-con games, sweep a bad Tennessee team, and then take 1 game in each of the aTm, Vandy and USCe series. If they lose to MSU tonight or drop a game to UT, they really will have to to win one of those other SEC series to have a chance to get into the tournament.
A run the SEC tourney would provide them some breathing room, but its really never smart to rely on doing that.
