The real problem here is not the structure of insurance.

I am good with a rule that requires I have to pay for basic maintenance out of pocket.
The problem is on our current trajectory we(AMERICA) will soon be paying 1 out of every 4 dollars generated in this country to support overall health care.
That anchor will make us hugely noncompetitive in world markets.
We don't need insurance companies. I would hope we can agree on this? They are by definition required to answer to stock holder interests and not ours.
We can put a system in place to pay health care directly to providers? Lots of countries do it very successfully and are at only around 8% of GDP doing it. That includes Administrative overhead.
Medicaid proves this theory already.
We have to do it. Some very smart economists who make tons of money aren't just blowing smoke up our azzes.
The numbers don't lie.
