Kim Anderson was not Alden's second choice. There was an initial list of desired names, and Kim was not among them. After MU decided they didn't want to commit what was necessary to land Marshall, various parties intervened and plans/approach changed. We just went from choice one to sort of giving up, but it isn't like we had a list of guys with Kim in second place and when our first option didn't work we landed choice #2.
