Payer healthcare? You are still capable of having a well researched and rationalized opinion on its benefits and detriments, but I am curious as to how many of younhave experienced it first hand.
I have, and I will give you my thoughts. Country is Australia. They have two systems. Public single payer which everyone is taxed to maintain. Then they have a private system that coexist with it. First hand experience indicated that the public system handled emergencies fairly well but did not handle things such as hip replacement etc well.
In addition they have a plan for preexisting conditions whereby they person has to pay in for a period of time before they begin to receive treatement. You also have to pick private insurance starting at around age 30
Finally, they strictly control imigration and consider the projected medical cost of all that they allow in the country. This impacted me personally in a negative manner as I have an Autistic son. Hence I could not bring him and go to their country as an expat. Point his is open borders and single payor doesn't work
