Entire villages and cities would gather to play this game every Tuesday in 14th century England. In a nutshell, the whole point of the game was to take an inflated pig bladder back to the village or city of your team. Bones were broken, people were left bloody and battered, and deaths were not necessarily uncommon. Imagine hundreds of people running through narrow alleys doing everything they could to get a ball back to their home base! King Edward III even banned the damn sport in 1365 because it distracted too many able-bodied men who were working on their archery skills.
