Saddam wanted weapons of mass destruction. His scientists told him they had built them.
That's the intel we acquired. It shows the huge flaw between using technology versus human spies.
Everything we had, saddam was told, was that he had a stockpile. No one stopped to consider saddam had a nasty habit of putting people in woodchippers feet first when they told him no.
Saddam's scientists lied. Our mistake? we believed them, because we had tons and tons of intercepts all saying the same thing.
Saddam did have plenty of chemical weapons, just no nukes.
