The likely cause is a part failure (perhaps combined with your 'pilot error' assessment). The Sequester (per the linked stories I provided) is affecting the arts availability for aircraft. The Sequester is affecting pilot training.

Is your 'pilot error' assessment 'a relevant thought relating to the crash'?
