How the tourney payout units work

A conference gets one unit for getting a team in and one unit for each win not including the championship game.
So the ACC is currently at 17 (nine in and 8 wins) with UNC still alive
SEC is at 15 with 3 still alive and at least one more unit guaranteed
PAC12 is at 14 with Oregon still alive
Big ten is at 15 and done
Big12 is at 15 and done.
Payout is currently over 6 years at 272k per year per unit with an annual escalator.
So for the major conference they are already in the 25 million range for this year with more money out there. But this speaks to why must getting teams in means millions.
