That's the past, time to move on.
At one time it was great to live in KC proper, then it went to hell. Everyone with the means to do so moved out to the suburbs. Once you get out of the ghetto you don't go back.
This is the same thing - every single school has tried, some on multiple occasions, to leave the Big 12. The schools with options left, the ones with no options were left behind. There's no reason to associate with any of those schools.
