...people who are distanced from the problems tell everyone else they don't understand what's right in front of them.

I met up with a fraternity brother (he had come from Iowa and went back there after graduation) after I had lived in Texas for 15 years ... he tried telling me I didn't understand the problems involved with illegal aliens.

He had to admit he had a lot to learn after a few minutes. Not some sort of serious problem, he just didn't know what he didn't know, and couldn't admit it until someone he couldn't deny told him that.
