too many here are focusing solely on the negative aspects, and that is a foolish way to look at something, you have to take everything into account as a whole.
Pros:
-Midwest ties could lead to potential recruiting upside in the area
-if not, he has still landed 2 5 star freshmen at Cal, Mizzou has had close to that many, ever.
-SEC experience, with a winning record
-Only has 1 losing season ever, his first at year at MO state
-Integrity, does not appear to be a dirty coach
-Good defensive teams
-postseason tourney in 7 of 9 years
-This last one is true for any coach that will come here, but important. Our facilities and home court advantage give any good coach a chance to be even better than they have been, Mizzou is not usually an easy place to play, and our facilities are nice.
Cons:
-Only 2 NCAA tourney appearances in 9 years
-Some recruiting misses led to ho hum classes
-Offense is less than stellar
-Hopped around some, would he stay?
-Getting fans to accept him
Verdict: Safe hire, not a great one, not a bad one.
IMO it fits well with Mizzou. If he was able to stay here and get some traction I think his best coaching days are still ahead of him. Mizzou would provide plenty of resources for him to succeed here.
