He failed pretty miserably in the NBA and he likely wasn't getting another NBA job. He was 40 games under .500 in the NBA. He went to the collegiate level because he wasn't getting another NBA job.

Billy Donovan is in no danger of being fired and he's not leaving the NBA for IU unless IU pays him like $7.5 million a year.
