In my opinion, this is a good thing. Afghanistan is famously known as the "land where empires go to die" and that is true in many respects.
From Alexander the Great, to the British, to the USSR, and now the United States...empires sure seems to die rather quickly after pulling out of Afghanistan in defeat.
America seems to be teetering on the edge of civil war and a collapse in democracy spreading influence. Previous empires which invaded Afghanistan ceased to exist not long after exiting that barren land in defeat.
Therefore, if China wants to tackle the extremely complex Afghanistan theatre...I say all power to them.
