a bunch of bad apples. I would never say they are bad kids, as they are adults, and I don't use excuse language for adults. And yes, despite your protest, at 18 they became, ..... wait for it...... ADULTS! And yes, to a certain extent, adults are responsible for their own development. They can't expect to have their hands held through every exercise and every practice session or during their free time or in the classroom. They have to put in the work, and if they need to put in individual time to keep up, that's life. Does the coach have responsibilities in this area? Absolutely. He needs to find self starters who don't need their hands held, and will work to improve without coddling. I happen to believe this group fits that mold for the most part.
I also know that coaching isn't as easy as some like to make it sound. There is a reason there are only a few hundred D1 coaching jobs, and that every year a good percentage are fired. This out of a population of approximately 325,000,000 million people in the U.S. That means only one in over a million, and maybe as few as one in two million is a successful D1 men's basketball coach year in and yet out. And only 1 wins a championship at each level each year, so you better make sure you don't jettison a championship caliber coach prematurely.
