Fox is facing the same issue with people opting out of cable. No one can choose to drop just ESPN. They're dropping cable entirely.

ESPN has also lost viewers because their staple—SportsCenter—is irrelevant. Everyone has already seen the highlights they care about online before ESPN shows them. Sports programming that isn't live is increasingly unimportant.

Cable news has yet to confront that reality, and maybe it never will. There's more to fill a 24-hour news channel than 24-hour sports.
