since 2010 & the population loss referenced was almost wholly to the County of STL other surrounding Metro Counties. That said the rate of migration from the City of STL has continued to slow significantly. A lot of which can be attributed to increased incoming population.
The faster the old, deadbeat, limited thinking, has been, backwards, pessimistic, false narrative disappears the better for STL. However, that has been changing for some time now to the absolute cluelessness of some & to STL's great benefit!!
The amount of people living downtown is greater than it has been since 2000 & is growing every year. The amount of young professionals is greater than it has been since the 60's & growing almost everyday! You may want to take note of the numerous residential developments that have proliferated, continue to come on the market in the downtown core & are planned for it (See: the Cardinals' prime, top rate, residential tower as a leading example!) Developers & investors don't do this whimsically. It is based present & future demand by those informed about the market.
Hilarious erroneous, misleading uniformed or misinformed, distorted, wholly inaccurate &/or fallacious article though written by the out of touch, beat down, "it must be that way always has to be that way because that's been the narrative I was told in the '70s," glass is always half empty types at the STLPD - it surprising. That type of attitude & person contributed in part to STL's stagnation & in some case losses, but for some time now, that has taken a back seat to those making big change thankfully!!
That pent up potential has combined with previous, ongoing efforts over the last decade to take off in an exponential way currently.
