the Trump admin have one thing in common. none of them, other than Iran, have a functioning government. Iran of course does, but we have no diplomatic ties with them.
the other terror prone countries such as Saudi Arabia, as bad as they may be, have governments that function and have some level of cooperation. we can debate whether we should cooperate with SA or whether we should trust them, but that's a different argument.
just as an aside i've mentioned before the I worked for DHS previously. I vetted illegals for a I-601 waivers which is a hardship waiver.
As an agency we didn't have the capability of vetting MEXICANS properly. The supporting documents i would get for review from the applicants looked like they came out of a cracker jack box.
i had absolutely NO way to verify a Mexican birth certificate for example. none.
My government computer could not access ANY social media sites. No FB. Twitter. Youtube etc etc to check on any applicant.
All i could really check was US databases and if that individual never appeared on any of them what did that mean? almost nothing is what it meant.
In lieu of that i would be inundated with pictures of children. school report cards. letters from clergy. etc etc all anecdotal crap to try and sway my opinion. and that's what they are getting from refugees too.
the fact is there is literally almost no way to properly vet individuals coming from these countries with no functioning governments, bureaucracies, databases etc.
also I worked for the UN. they are the ones doing the initial vetting. I wouldn't trust a single thing the UN does EVER. the most inept and corrupt organization I ever was associated with. there are good and qualified people in some respects but in many others you have 3rd world nationals who (surprise) there is no real way to check their credentials and they get put into positions that exceed their abilities and technical know how.
as an example my boss was from Mali and didn't know how to use email. not one bit. and his job description required him to build spreadsheets and email them.
My boss' boss was from Niger. I had to do his reports for him because he didn't' know how to use Microsoft word. He had no idea how to insert a photo into a document. on and on and on.
this is who you are relying on to do the initial vetting.
i know there are people doing the best they can to vet refugees and probably more often than not they will be right. but do not kid yourselves, it's inaccurate at best.
