Gorsuch, a 49-year old federal appeals court judge nominated Tuesday by President Donald Trump to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the high court, has demonstrated that he is not only a supporter of religious exemptions but also strongly objects to the practice of medical aid in dying. In his 2006 book, "The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia," he wrote in detail about the ethical and legal implications of the practices and argues against their legalization.
"Human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable, and that the intentional taking of human life by private persons is always wrong," he wrote. "My argument, based on secular moral theory, is consistent with the common law and long-standing medical ethics."
