For the most part never existed except in 1950's advertising.
As a general rule $70000 pickup trucks being purchased by kids making $20 an hour is a bad sign.
That the rest of the world sees our excesses as something to strive for is probably species suicide.
There is mounting evidence that long distance space flight, even to Mars will be terminal to humans.
But we sit here like locusts stripping this planet bare.
