Kind of interesting bit on EO's and immigration, from

Just Doing His Job
A few points.
By a great stroke of luck, I read frequently about immigration law. One of my best friends, Nolan Rappaport, is a nationally renowned lawyer/expert on immigration law. He sends me his writings — lately, for the Hill — and I read them.
I have learned that the President, through many decades, has been given by Congress immense latitude in enlarging or diminishing immigration.
Mr. Obama could admit about as many Muslims as he wanted. Mr. Trump can keep out as many Muslims as he wants. Since the early 20th century, the U.S. has not even remotely been “a nation of immigrants” as the college kids shout. We have been at times among the very most restricted nations on earth.
When Mr. Trump issued his EO calling for A TINY bit of restriction, an EO which was a joke of miniaturization compared with Mr. Obama’s EOs, he was well within his rights as President. When the few judges blocked a tiny tiny tiny bit of the Trump EO they were not questioning his basic rights to restrict immigration… only how it worked and requiring hearings for some persons.
BTW, thanks to my pal, Attorney Rappaport, I have learned that there are a ton of immigrants wanting hearings and very very few immigration judges. Immigrants will have to learn patience.
So, point one… get hip. Mr. Trump is the new sheriff in Immigrant City.
Second, the media is acting as if the whole nation is in rebellion over the EOS on immigration. Not quite. Maybe a few tens of thousands have turned up at airports to torture the weary traveler trying to earn a living. But this is a nation of 335 million. Maybe 1/100th of one percent are blocking traffic. The rest of the country is trying to get to work or to ski.
Third, demonstrators, ask yourself this. “Why did Mr. Trump issue those executive orders Did he do it just to give you an excuse to cut class? Did he do it to raise your blood pressure?”
Or did he do it because he is trying to fight terrorism? Why would he have anything against Yemen or Somalia? No. He is trying to do his job: to protect the nation. And do you have a better way? Yes. He did it sloppily. To keep out a man who had worked for years with the U.S. Army in Iraq was terrible. He deserves an apology.
But what more obvious (maybe too obvious) a way to do it than to keep out people from immense recent histories of terror?
Finally, for sure, this whole immigration issue needs more work at the top and middle of the government. Much more fine tuning.
But as my pal, Judah Friedman says, “He is keeping his promises to the voters. He’s not kowtowing to the Washington establishment or the mainstream media. When was the last time you saw a President do that?’
