dems have a lot of work to do in the next two years if they don't want to slip farther back.
Most of the midterm seats are already held by dems but many are in states that have been trending red.
Two things will be very important for them in the next 18 months. The first they have very little control over and that is the economy under Trump. If Trump moves the US economy in a positive direction then the midterm dems are in serious trouble. The second thing is marginally in their power and that is the direction the democratic party chooses to move in the next 18 months. If the dems continue their march to the left then those candidates will have a very tough time in their red leaning states.
