Charles deGaulle, President of France, ordered all of the U.S. military troops out of France when deGaulle pulled France out of NATO.
The U.S. president at the time, Lyndon Johnson, sent a message to deGaulle, "Does your demand that all U.S. troops must leave France include the thousands of U.S. soldiers who are buried on French soil?"
