I haven't been struck by lightning in my life, but I'm going to continue to stop playing golf in electrical storms and the electrical storms aren't plotting every day how to find me and kill me.
Premise: The US should maintain and enforce entry standards for immigrants wishing to enter the US.
Premise: There are people in the world who wish to kill US citizens in the US and do other harm to the people and property and institutions in the US.
Premise: Vetting should not be a "one size fits all" proposition. Vetting an 86 year old Lutheran from Dublin or London isn't the same as vetting a 22 year old male from Yemen, Iran, or really anywhere.
You don't handle your personal safety in Town & Country, St. Louis County as you do in North St. Louis city, do you?
Premise: The current administration is advised by Homeland that there is little confidence in the current vetting process, it isn't flexible nor ideal for any situation and the current administration wants to improve it.
Premise: the current POTUS ran on a platform of improving overall security of the US and reforming immigration policy and execution thereof. He isn't pulling a wild card out of the deck here, folks.
Conclusion: The temporary ban is based on an existing threat list from Dec 2015 which will be revised ongoing as a legal matter and is intended to ensure tomorrow isn't the next time a "bad guy" comes in and hurts people - and should be lifted in favor of a better vetting process that fits to perceived/analyzed risks based on origin and other factors.
To assume that a) "nothing's happened yet" and b) therefore we should just do what we've been doing is, to me, like saying I shouldn't continually alter my insurance coverage since I've never had a claim before. It's just not logical.
What is the cost here? Inconvenience? the moral outrage of people who may not know or care about risk or simply just hate trump? the scorn of Angela Merkel or whichever dbag is running FRancislamia these days?
