perhaps silly isn't the right word - Disgusting is more apt.

If you liked either of these candidates, you are Stupid.

What is silly is the lengths to which seemingly otherwise rationale people (on both sides) are going to. Losing friends because of an election is silly - if one has to think exactly like someone else to interact - that's silly.
