How many people do anything more than slap a "Support our troops!" magnet on their SUV or glibly toss out a "Thank you for your service"?
I've been back almost 7 years and literally not one family member, 'friend' or acquaintance have asked about my experience or wanted to know what my conclusions are.
Tearful reunions on YouTube and free Awesome Blossoms on Veteran's Day are nice but what I really want is the belief that my fellow citizens have learned from our experiences. No dice.
Instead they would rather pledge their allegiance to some draft-dodging carnival barker who's never known a day of hardship or sacrifice in his life. And no, putting up a skyscraper does not qualify as a sacrifice.
Caring takes time and effort, and Americans aren't up for that. Empty gestures and charlatans are what we're about...
