If Widget A from Mexico starts getting taxed at 20%, a supplier in Taiwan capable of building Widget A will say, damn, we need to really increase production Widget A and sell it to the Americans because the tax they have put on Mexican imports makes them unaffordable. Some little Tawian factory owner makes a **** ton of money, Americans continue to consume Widget A at a low price. Mexico gets ****ed.
