That is what actually caused it.
Those loans were actually labeled as very risky investments, right up to the time they were bundled to gather and sold as something they were not.
Pure fraud by the banks and a basic audit failure by the auditing and rating companies.
Hence, the new regulations and laws constraining the banks.
