"America first!" is a Trump rallying cry, and his supporters foam at the mouth when he says it, but it's not that simple.
Does this mean "America first!" in the short term? At the expense of future generations? Sure we can plunder the natural resources at our disposal and give the middle finger to the rest of the world, but eventually the chickens come home to roost.
Or does it mean "America First!" in the longer term? To the benefit our kids and grandkids but not necessarily our own?
For 50 years we played footsies with dictatorial and corrupt regimes in the Middle East, turning a blind eye to the plight of their citizenry. In return we got cheap oil and our economy thrived.
Now those people are angry and many of them want to slit the throats of any Westerner they can get their hands on. And Americans are terrified.
Was it worth it?
