"The phrase “Big Government” kills me every time I hear it,

not because I’m opposed to it, but because talk of reducing the size of the federal government is ****ing ridiculous. We’re the 4th largest country in the world by land mass. The 3rd largest by population. The largest by GDP. The government is the size it is because it has to be, not because we have too much bureaucracy or give too much money to the poor. We can haggle about reallocation of resources all damn day, but administering the beast that is the United States of America takes a ****-ton of work. If it weren’t for big government, we wouldn’t have safe cars, air traffic controllers, a working electrical grid, Internet, halfway decent quality controls on food or medicine, a banking system that allows you to get your money when and where you want it, laws that (generally) protect innocent people, etc.

But sure, let’s get of big government and regulations on all of that. Because free market.
