3) The worst possible scenario here aside from WWIII or some such catastrophic development is that we face another election in four years.
Trump comes into office by far the least popular man to ever be elected.
Popular Approval during transition:
Obama - 83%
W - 64%
Bubba - 64%
Trump - 44%
The mid-terms are in two years and people already don't like this guy - so the level of support he will have in Congress looks to be weak once the dust settles. So his "succeeding" is not really in the cards.
Source of those stats was either a BBC or NPR report Friday morning. I wake at 4:30 to catch the BBC. It might have been on NPR which starts at 5:00
