unless you continue on the job. If you show up, you're "guaranteed" to make $X. However, like any job, if you quit...well....

It makes no sense for him to give up that cash. ESPECIALLY this late in his earning career. Fiji's missives about pride and caring for the University aside, it would be phenomenally stupid as far as personal wealth is concerned. Fred G. actually has this one right. The University signed him to the contract, they should own up to it. It's either live with it or pay for your mistake and buy him out.
