that KA was under some impression that he needed to play a guy like CVL -- in-state kid, gym rat, effort guy, white -- to appeal to what was left of his dwindling support. And that support would be represented by a guy like Gary Link who continued to praise CVL on radio broadcasts for "playing the right way" and "doing things that don't show up on the stat sheet."

In short, I have no reason to believe that KA is any more confident in own his abilities than are his detractors -- and this is reflected in the way he defers and refers to Shields for basically any and every in-game decision.

So I could see him doing something so stupid as playing CVL for 35 minutes per game to appeal to what he perceived as his constituency.
