never get caught. Only if they make a major mistake.

You can geolocate IP addresses discovered in security logs. But that is meaningless. Hackers hide their tracks by using multiple hops through multiple nations that are not friendly to the US.

Unless you secure each leg of the connection, you will never know the source. Even then that is if there is no attempt by the hacker to cover his tracks.
