have a civil yet meaningful discourse with the guy but he throws out such stupid shlt you find it very hard not to respond.

It is like when your child mispronounces a word and you want to correct them for their own good. But in this case the child always insist that their mispronunciations are actually correct and it is the rest of the English speaking world who has it wrong.
