if you choose to leave individually your whole family (still in the cult) will be told to excommunicate you.
If you speak out against the Church you can also be split from your spouse. Their first step is to get to the spouse first and isolate them from the person grumbling about Scientology.

In Scientology you are forced to buy their expensive books to move up in spiritual gifts.
On top of that they say there were mistakes in the books and you are forced to buy the renditions.
