Phillips can't get the motor started at the beginning of the game. We have to have faster starts. Phillips isn't getting it done. However he had a much better game tonight as compared to the last game.
Geist looked great for a while, and should have been on the floor more. Give him some of Hughes' minutes.
Hughes will be very good, and maybe great in the future. He is wildly out of control right now on the offensive end. 1-11 won't cut it. Take the foot off the gas.
I wonder how the team would do with Puryear, Woods, Nikko, Geist and Barnett/Phillips in at the same time.
We have the most success when we drive to the basket. When we jack up 3s, not so much. Get the ball to the paint.
CVL may know where people should be, but he seems at times to have no sense for when to pass up a 3. He did better the last game, stepping inside the arc but don't recall seeing it tonight (if he did it was when I got a call I suppose).
The difference in the game was each team's 3 point shooting to start the game. 4-4 for the chiefs. 1-4 for Mizzou. After that, 3-13 for the chiefs, 5-17 for Mizzou.
Like the Xavier game, Mizzou did a good job of getting their best players in foul trouble. However, even though we committed only 1 more foul, they had 9 more shots at the ft line.
The Mizzou fans did a good job at making noise and giving the place some energy.
For all the talk about the experience and depth of Illinois, and the youth/inexperience of Mizzou, you would think they should have blown Mizzou off the floor by 20 or more.
Very poor start. Good second half, but still too many rush jobs, mental errors at various times kept them from going on a big run.
Good job by Puryear. Tough assignment but put up good numbers. Even so, Morgan was the difference maker in the game.
Frustrating end.
