Quin's first few years seemed to set everything right with 4 consecutive NCAA appearances and an elite 8 but we all know what happened then. At that point, we truly went into dynamic decline. CMA decent coach and decent guy but had inconsistent results around 1 exceptional year but program got steadily more inconsistent as he was not able to sustain recruiting.
In comes probably the worst hire in Mizzou history with Haith. He had a suspect resume and it was clear early on he wasn't going to be able to sustain recruiting and wasn't going to win - how do you lose in the first round of the NIT with two NBA players on your squad? That first great year was a bit of an accident of timing - several senior players with chemistry freed from CMA's very limited system. I loved that team but it was not nearly deep enough for a deep run into the NCAA's.
KA wasn't the right man for the job after Haith. A younger KA following a successful coach might have been OK but Haith left the cupboard bare and KA hasn't been able to recruit to the level to stop the bleeding.
That's the way its played out in my eyes. Just a steady trend toward inconsistency with new coaches, none of them quite up to challenge over an extended period of time.
