These high sea surface temperatures are a result of warm Atlantic water circulating onto the Arctic continental shelf seas.
So, the question is: how is sea water warmed? Bet you don't know. You probably think it's CO2. That would be wrong. It is warmed directly by the sun. CO2 plays no part. CO2 warms air from solar energy reflected by land. Sea water reflects very little solar energy. It absorbs it. So, sea surface water temperature is influenced by the amount of sunlight it receives. Solar radiation and cloud cover determine sea water temperatures. More sun, less clouds mean warmer water. Carbon does next to nothing. Sea currents are another factor. And your link mentions them.
