intelligentsia, the party of the common man and they were just trying to reign in those evil, obstructionist republicans who were blocking all the good things they were trying to accomplish.
How could that ever backfire on them?
Some may have actually believed the crap that was being written before the election about the GOP being on life support.
The sad thing is just how uninformed and out of touch the dem leadership actually is. They still have no idea why they lost this election and apparently have zero understanding of US political history. No party is ever in power for more than a decade. So while in power it is a really bad idea to reduce the power of the minority party because in a few short years you will be that party.
