Oh I fully understand the attempt to defend this position:

I just don't think it's defensible.
We fully support all the volunteers who are training for war.
Oh wait, now they're deployed somewhere we don't like - uh, we don't support the deployment!!!
As they march, we support they're marching, they're firing of weapons, and everything they have to do to do their jobs honorably.
But we don't support the actual deployment.
The troops ARE the actual deployment.
This is all just smoke and mirrors by a generation that got the Vietnam war horribly, horribly wrong and now are trying to make amends.
But really, if you oppose deployment to Iraq, you oppose the people who voluntarily go to Iraq to conduct that deployment.
And if those with that position had stones, they'd protest the people deploying, because without those people's voluntary agreement to do the job, the job would not be happening.
Vietnam was exotically insane because many of the armed forces were drafted. So wow, completely nuts to attack those guys.
These days though, the anti-war folk really do oppose the volunteers...
