Why all this name calling is stupid and lazy

I finally had enough of two long time friends, both of whom I love even though they are over the top liberals, who have been calling Trump supporters all the popular "ists" and "phobes." (sexist, racist, homophobe, xenophobe, etc.) I simply said, "you have known me for years, profess to love me and you should know I voted for Trump becasue I simply could not consider voting for Hillary. So here I am - a Trump voter. Do you really believe I am all of those things?"

One actually started crying. They said of course not even though they hated my choice. They then said it is all the others who are like that. In other words, it is all the other faceless, nameless people they don't really know exist, but they wish to believe exist to satisfy their slanted view.

We have too much of this on both sides. Listen, there are a**holes in all parties. But by an large, disagreeing with someone, even passionately, does not make the other person evil. We really need to grow up and get real. This lazy game of demonization and accusation is boring, lazy and dangerous.
